Favorite things:
Friends and family; my convertible, Alabama football and a good tailgate party; Fall, chicken fingers and coming home to Scott

Favorite memory with Susan:
Sometimes you learn the most about a person during the bad times.

Last February I was laid-off from my job with Jessica McClintock. I knew I wouldn’t be able to stay in California, if I didn’t find a job very soon. Scott and I had only been dating about 3 months, but things were going well and I knew that I loved him. I was upset that I would be unemployed, but even more upset at the thought of having to go back to Alabama and leave a budding relationship.

That evening at Scott’s apartment he was so supportive (and I was a wreck). He didn’t even hesitate, he told me to get out of my apartment lease, move in with him and take my time finding a job. After some more discussion it was decided that’s what I would do. I knew then he was the one.

Favorite things:
Travel, bicycle riding, unique foods, Susan’s smile

Favorite memory with Susan: New Year’s Eve 2007, when I surprised her with her favorite ring.

How we met:
Susan had recently relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area from Alabama (September 2007) as part of a promotion opportunity within her previous employer’s corporate office. Scott had relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area from Vermont to accept his position at BigBand Networks (June 2006). Susan listed her location online as Burlingame, California in an attempt to become part of the local community, as she had almost no local friends or contacts immediately following her relocation. In November 2007, Scott and Susan connected online via a social networking Web site and began dating.

The Proposal:

Scott was like a little kid on Christmas Day. Susan thought it was because it was their first Christmas since moving in together. They both got up, had some coffee and settled in the living room to open gifts. Devon was home from Air Force Tech School; so it was a fun Christmas morning. Susan played Santa and distributed the gifts and stockings. In Susan's family, they usually do gifts first and stockings last, but Scott was insistent that they open their stockings first. Susan had 2 cards and went to open the first one. Scott stopped her and told her that she had to open the other card first (which was Devon’s). Susan thought Scott was acting a little strange, but he has been known to do that from time to time. Next, Susan was instructed to open the card from Scott ,which was very sweet and already had Susan getting misty.

When Susan reached into her stocking there was a cute red bag inside. Inside the bag was a small box that appeared to be a jewelry box. You would think at this point Susan would know what was happening, but she did not. Scott had done a very good job of throwing Susan off the scent in the previous weeks. Not until she opened the box did she know it was an engagement ring (!). After Scott took a couple of not so flattering photos of Susan, he came over and sat down beside her on the couch and asked her, “will you marry me”. Susan, threw choaked back tears mustered the composure to say, "YES".
